Weird Science

The cover story of the Summer 2012 issue of TEMPLE University Magazine is “Weird Science,” an article by Gary Kramer about how Dr. Leroy Dubeck (Temple physics department) and I use Sci-Fi and Diaster Films to teach science to non-science majors. My class, Disasters: Geology vs. Hollywood, deals with earthquakes, volcanoes and other natural disasters. I’m looking forward to teaching this fall as Hollywood continues to provide me with new material. Naturally, I will have to incorporate clips from “2012.” After all, this is the year the world ends!
