ARTstor Update 8/21/09

ARTstor has announced the following:

New collection agreement: World Monuments Fund
ARTstor is collaborating with the World Monuments Fund (WMF) to share approximately 2,000 images of architecture, sites, and monuments from around the world in the Digital Library.

Now available in ARTstor: Additional images from The Metropolitan Museum of Art
More than 1,000 images from The Metropolitan Museum of Art have been added to the Digital Library, including hundreds of additions to Images for Academic Publishing (IAP).

New features: Save details to image groups and nested folders
In response to feedback from our user community, ARTstor has released two new features in the Digital Library. You will now see an icon in the ARTstor Image Viewer that allows you to zoom in and save a particular detail of an image to an image group. With this new feature, full views and multiple details of an image may appear together in any given group, as well as be exported for use in the Offline Image Viewer (OIV) or PowerPoint. This ability to save and share multiple views of the same image helps to meet the many teaching, research, and presentation needs of the ARTstor community.

ARTstor has also enhanced the functionality of folders in the Digital Library. Instructor-level users can now create nested sub-folders that can be moved easily from one folder to another by dragging and dropping. For example, you may build draft versions of your image groups in a private folder and simply drag them to a public folder when they are ready to be shared. The addition of nested folders allows you to organize ARTstor content in ways that are meaningful and intuitive to you

Jill Luedke is new Reference Librarian and Subject Specialist in Art

I am delighted to welcome Jill Luedke to Temple University Libraries. Jill joined us as the Reference Librarian and Subject Specialist in Art on Monday, August 10. Jill will work with faculty and students in art, art history and art education at the Tyler School of Art, providing them with instructional services and research assistance. Jill will also help develop and manage print and electronic collections in art-related subject areas, and will develop guides and resources for finding and navigating the rich resources now offered at Temple.

Jill comes to us from the Adam & Sophie Gimbel Design Library at the New School in New York, New York, where she served as a Reference and Instruction Librarian. Prior to that, she worked as the Visual Resources Assistant, and then the Electronic Reserves Manager, also at the New School.

Jill earned a B.A. in Art and Art History, with a specialization in German, from Fort Hays State University, in Hays, Kansas. She received a dual MS in Library & Information Science and the History of Art & Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. She is active in the Art Libraries Society of New York, and recently published an article, “ It All Started with a Button…”, in the Urban Library Journal. Please join me again in welcoming Jill Luedke to Temple University Libraries.

ARTstor has announced the following:

Now in ARTstor: Mexican architecture and urban design — Pre-Colombian through the 20th century
ARTstor and the School of Architecture at the University of Texas at Austin have collaborated to share more than 5,700 images from the Hal Box and Logan Wagner Collection of Mexican Architecture and Urban Design.

Now in ARTstor: Photographs from ancient sites in Dura-Europos, Syria and Gerasa, Jordan
The Yale University Art Gallery in New Haven, Connecticut, has collaborated with ARTstor to make approximately 18,000 images related to the ancient sites of Dura-Europos in Syria and Gerasa (modern Jerash) in Jordan available in the Digital Library.

Collection agreement: European popular culture images from the Harry Ransom Center (University of Texas at Austin)
ARTstor is collaborating with the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin to share images of European prints covering a variety of subject matter, including: political and religious satire, social allegory, science and technology, advertising, erotica, Dance of Death imagery, and historical events.

Collection agreement: Images from the Richard F. Brush Art Gallery (St. Lawrence University)
The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery at St. Lawrence University has partnered with ARTstor to share images of African textiles and Vietnam-era photography from its permanent collection, as well as images of contemporary Nigerian art.

To facilitate your access to Google book content for titles in the Temple University Libraries’ collections we have added the ability to quickly view Google book records for books we own. The icon for “Google Preview” is located in the individual record for each title for which it is available (not every book we own is found in Google Books). researchers with text-mining tools and research data from high-
quality publicly available sources of information.

This enhancement on ScienceDirect provides researchers with
intelligent connections extracted from ScienceDirect content
(published from 1995) as well as ScienceDirect peer-reviewed
literature together with publicly available research data as compiled
by NextBio. These research data sources include PubMed, clinical
trials, experimental data correlations and news articles.
