Introduction to Geophysics

Student collecting vertical magnetic gradient data at an historic site in eastern Pennsylvania

This class is a broad-based survey of exploration geophysical methods (gravity, magnetics, resistivity, IP, SP, radar, EM, and seismic) with an emphasis on their application to environmental and engineering problems.  Every class includes either computer laboratory exercises (using Matlab or specialized geophysical software), or field data collection and processing.

As a final group project the students band together to create their own “consulting company,” collect and process field data, and publish a report and client recommendations.
