“Social Susceptibility to Climate-Related Exposures: GIS in Urban Public Health”
Dr. Clougherty will discuss the myriad uses of GIS and geographic analysis in public health and environmental epidemiology research. Examples may include the design and interpretation of air pollution monitoring studies, assessments of chronic stress across urban communities, and communication of study results with scientists, policy-makers, affected communities, and the general public.
Dr. Jane Clougherty is a Professor of Environmental and Occupational Health at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health. She completed her doctorate and post-doctoral training at the Harvard School of Public Health, and served as Senior Research Scientist at New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
Her research focuses on the role of chronic psychosocial stressors (esp. violence) and climate-related environmental exposures (e.g., air pollution, heat) on population health.
She managed the New York City Community Air Survey (NYCCAS), and has led many studies funded by EPA, NIH, the Health Effects Institute, and others.
She has been a board member of the International Society for Exposure Science (ISES), an Editorial Board Member for several prominent journals. She currently serves on the Executive Committee of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) North American Chapter.
