PA Groundwater Symposium & REE sampling

PhD student Jim BergluMicrosoft PowerPoint - PA_GW_symposium_forPDF.pptxnd and I visited Birmingham Cave spring and others from the Shuster and White study to get samples for rare earth elements (REE), a new tracer we are exploring.  We also downloaded data from our temperature loggers for a talk that Jim gave the next day at the PA Groundwater Symposium on May 4.  Jim gave a talk on contrasting karst classification using high frequency temperature monitoring versus the more traditional coefficients of variation from low frequency monitoring.

Birmingham Cave spring presents tight quarters for data collection. Jim is using a portable drill to drive a pump head to filter samples.
