On January 30, 2021, Temple’s Center for American Language and Culture (TCALC) crowned its very first ‘Quiz Master.’ The online event sought to bring some much-needed fun and friendly competition to English language learners around the world. Competitors logged on from all corners of the globe from Vietnam to Brazil—in hopes of winning a free TCALC class. Outreach through Facebook and Instagram yielded over 75 registrants in just over a month.
“Hosting Quiz Masters was the most fun I have had during an online event. We had such a diverse group of players and everyone had smiles on their faces,” said Instructional Technology Specialist, Sam Adams, who led gameplay on the popular platform, Kahoot.
Contestants battled over trivia topics on U.S. landmarks and flexed their knowledge about American pop culture. The winners hailed from Chile, Colombia and Brazil, respectively. Back by popular demand, the second TCALC Quiz Masters is scheduled for May 22, 2021.
