Mehrdad Falamarzi Askarani,  mehrdad.falamarzi.askarani@temple.edu

Mehrdad completed his master’s program in physical chemistry at the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 2018.

As a master’s student, he conducted research on synthesis and characterization of Metal Nano Oxides and investigation of their catalytic activity. In more detail, the catalytic properties of metal oxides such as CuO and ZnO were investigated in reduction reactions. MOFs were used as a precursor to prepare such metal oxides. Gold and silver nanoparticles were used to improve the catalytic properties of the prepared metal oxides. The prepared nanocomposites were applied in the catalytic reduction of paranitrophenol in the presence of sodium borohydride and the kinetics and mechanism were investigated according to the structure of the prepared catalysts.

Mehrdad has recently joined the Borguet group as a PhD student in Spring 2022. His PhD research project will be about. Currently, he studies the interactions of MOF with adsorption of different gasses such as CO2. The stabilities of MOFs are analyzed under controlled temperature and pressure conditions (100 K – 1300 K ; 10-10 Torr – ambient pressures) which provide insights into processes and factors that determine the complex chemistry of these materials.
