Ryan McDonnell

Ryan McDonnell, mcdonnell@temple.edu

Ryan was an undergraduate researcher in the Borguet Group from Spring 2019 – Summer 2021. Ryan primarily used vibrational spectroscopy to investigate interactions (adsorption and diffusion) between toxic industrial chemicals, infrared active probe molecules and UiO-66 and UiO-67 Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) under Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) conditions. He also spent some time investigating in operando degradation of organic dyes via Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs). Outside of research, he, along with fellow group members, Binh-An Nguyen, Jordan Wenning, and Dr. Borguet, applied for and received a grant to begin a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) initiative for the College of Science and Technology in Winter 2021.

Ryan graduated Temple in Spring 2021 with a B.S. in Chemistry and received the Chemistry Department Service Award. Equipped with skills acquired from exciting research in the Borguet Group, he will be traveling to the University of Wisconsin – Madison to pursue a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry.
