Undergraduate Research Assistant Opportunity – Starting May 2024

The Siminoff Research Group for Informed Healthcare Decision Making and Effective Communication in the College of Public Health seeks an undergraduate research assistant (RA) to support research projects, including a study about organ donation among Black Americans. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone pursuing a career in a health-related field, such as pre-professional health or public health.

The successful applicant will begin in May 2024, and a minimum 20-hour per week commitment is required during the summer. Employment may continue into the 2024-25 academic school year depending on the project’s needs. This position may be considered for a hybrid format, but training will take place in the research team’s lab on Main Campus. This is not a work-study position, but all qualified students are welcome to apply.

Specifically, the research assistants will be responsible for the following:

  • transcription of audio-recorded interviews with study participants
  • data entry
  • literature searches
  • document editing and preparation
  • administrative tasks as needed
  • maintaining study files
  • other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Undergraduate student in the social sciences, public health, or other health-related fields

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • The ideal candidate will be highly intelligent, resourceful, and professional
  • Ability to assume special research projects and various administrative tasks
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks; excellent time-management skills
  • Must have prior research or professional experience
  • Familiarity with academically oriented internet research (e.g. PubMed) and software (e.g. Zotero)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite applications
  • Familiarity with topics in public health
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must have strong organizational skills
  • Must be attentive to detail and adhere to deadlines

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Prior experience supporting research with human subjects
  • Qualitative coding experience
