Research assistant – Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE)

The Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) in the College of Public Health at Temple University is seeking a part-time student worker. This student worker will be responsible for assisting in federally funded research studies focused on children’s eating behavior. This research blends developmental psychology and nutrition perspectives to study young children’s cognitive development related to healthy eating, dietary intake, and growth as well as parenting. This is a grant-funded position with direct report to the senior research associate.

Specific Duties:

Under the direction of the research associate, this student worker will assist with the following tasks:

  • Attending weekly research team meetings
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of two research studies, including recruiting, screening, and enrolling study participants; scheduling study visits; ensuring project documents are complete; and adhering to IRB-approved protocols.
  • Assisting the research team in conducting study visits with research participants (parents and preschoolers in an eating laboratory setting) including data collection and data management, working directly with research participants in a laboratory setting and following up with participants to ensure survey completion.
  • Conducting literature reviews and managing references using citation software.
  • Assist with clerical duties such as file maintenance, copying, shipping, etc.

Required skills and experience for this position include the following: coursework and/or work experiences involving research methods and psychology, public health or nutrition/dietetics; work experience interacting with children; and organizational skills. We are looking for a student to work 10-20 hours per week during the hours of 8 AM – 6 PM Monday – Friday. Additionally, individuals who have availability to devote time to work on Tuesdays will be given priority.

The position is part-time, temporary, and flexible, with the opportunity to continue work into the summer and fall of 2024. Student workers will need to come to the Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) on the Health Sciences campus as needed. This position will require child abuse history, FBI clearance, criminal, and cash handling background checks prior to hire. The position will also require CITI certification and IRB clearances, which will be completed upon hire. This position is paid ($14-$16/hour).
