Interested in working with our lab?

Undergraduate:

The RISC lab is always looking for bright, energetic students interested in conducting psychology research. Duties include recruiting participants, assisting in stimuli design and creation, running participants, coding data, and data analysis. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend lab meetings, as well as weekly journal clubs in which we discuss academic articles relating to our research.

No prior research experience is required to apply to the RISC Lab. However, we ask that our applicants:

  • Are in good academic standing*
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft office (specifically excel)
  • Are willing to commit to 10 hours per week.

We also prefer:

  • Majors in psychology or related fields
  • Weekend availability
  • students who plan on receiving academic credit for their work, rather than volunteer.

Our Commitment to Equity and Inclusion:

Drs. Newcombe and Shipley and the entire RISC lab is dedicated to creating a lab culture and research operations that welcome and celebrate diversity of all kinds. We are committed to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and integrated environment for all students and participants. Additionally, we aim to support individuals from marginalized and underrepresented backgrounds and identities, including race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identification, ability, socioeconomic status, immigration status, and more. We encourage applicants of all identities to apply for volunteer and graduate student positions, as we strive to uphold a welcoming and supportive community for all students.

If you are interested in the opportunity, please send:

  • (a) the completed RISC_Intern_Application2022
  • (b) a CV/resume indicating academic and volunteer experiences
  • (c) a cover letter, detailing why you believe you are a good fit for the RISC lab. It may be helpful to include information such as how have you faced challenges with other people, situations where you creatively solved a design problem, etc.

*There are many excellent students whose grades may not reflect their potential, caused by a variety of factors (e.g. difficulty of course load, extracurricular commitments, personal reasons). If your GPA falls under a 3.4, it would help to include something in your cover letter detailing what other commitments you have that could have affected your grades.
