Dr. Yang Yang was recently invited to deliver a research seminar for the Master’s program in Tourism at IAE Perpignan, part of the University of Perpignan Via Domitia.
The webinar, titled “Big Data in Tourism Research,” examined how large-scale digital data sources and advanced econometric methods are reshaping contemporary tourism scholarship. The session formed part of the program’s ongoing research seminar series and brought together faculty members, graduate students, and researchers interested in methodological innovation.
During the presentation, Dr. Yang discussed:
-
The integration of big data sources such as online reviews, mobility data, and transactional records into tourism research
-
Applications of advanced econometric and spatial models for tourism demand and performance analysis
-
The importance of theory-driven empirical design when working with high-dimensional data
-
Transparency, reproducibility, and robustness in data-intensive research
The seminar emphasized how data science and applied economics can generate actionable insights for destination management, hospitality operations, and tourism policy. Dr. Yang expresses his sincere appreciation to the faculty and students at IAE Perpignan, widely recognized as one of the leading institutions in tourism economics in Europe, for their engagement and thoughtful discussion. He looks forward to continued dialogue and potential collaboration with colleagues in France and across Europe in advancing data-driven tourism research.
