Dr. Sewall has joined the World Commission on Protected Areas, which provides technical advice in support of the establishment and effective management of a world-wide representative network of terrestrial and marine protected areas. These protected areas, including parks, reserves, natural monuments, and other areas managed for nature conservation, are designated for the long-term conservation of biodiversity, ecosystem services, and cultural values. The WCPA is a network of scientists, government officials, and non-governmental organization representatives from over 140 countries that works under the umbrella of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. More information on the WCPA is available here.
