Dr. Sewall has joined the World Commission on Protected Areas, which provides technical advice in support of the establishment and effective management of a world-wide representative network of terrestrial and marine protected areas. These protected areas, including parks, reserves, natural monuments, and other areas managed for nature conservation, are designated for the long-term conservation of biodiversity, ecosystem services, and cultural values. The WCPA is a network of scientists, government officials, and non-governmental organization representatives from over 140 countries that works under the umbrella of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. A position is open for a prospective doctoral student to study the ecology and conservation of rare and threatened butterflies and their prairie habitats. Applications are due by December 15, 2025, and the position will begin in summer or fall of 2026 (see Opportunities page for a full description)
