THM 5111 “Applied Research” Temple University Fall 2024-
This course is designed to introduce applied statistics and the use of statistics in the experience industries in addition to providing a foundation and framework for subsequent coursework in sport and recreation business. Students will learn how to apply methods and principles in a wide range of applications: evaluating performance and decision making, hypothesis testing, interpreting market-based evidence, identifying directions of causation, and quantifying the magnitude of various effects. The course focuses on applications in the sport context and uses approaches that are rapidly becoming important in the business of experience industries.

THM 1115 “Foundations of Excel for Sport and Tourism” Temple University Spring 2023-
The purpose of this course is to provide a basic understanding of Excel, a spreadsheet program that features calculation/computation capabilities, graphing tools/pivot tables, and advanced statistical capabilities. This course is designed to prepare you for future STHM courses as well as internships and full time job opportunities within the sport, tourism, hospitality, and events industries.

THM 5317 “Tourism and Hospitality Management Consulting Project” Temple University Fall 2022-23
The focus of this Master’s Project course is to provide a capstone experience to enable MSHM students in their final semester to work in consulting teams, analyzing real business problems and recommending appropriate actions for client organizations in the greater Philadelphia region. Students will emphasize the critical and creative thinking that they have developed as a result of participating in the MSHM program to enable effective problem identification and solution development and communication.

THM 5328 “Tourism Economics and Policy” Temple University Summer A 2018-22
This course focuses on the role that economics and policy play within the tourism industry. Specific economic and policy theories that are essential for the tourism industry will be investigated. Topics include theory of tourism demand and supply, using cost-benefit analysis, tax policy impacts, tourism valuation, economic analysis in management, and marketing and policy decision.

THM 5321 “Tourism Analytics” Temple University Spring C 2018-22
This course aims to provide tourism industry professionals with the necessary tools to guide aid decision making. The course is designed to familiarize students with quantitative data management and analytic skills such as econometric modeling, forecasting, interpretation of results, and development of conclusions, using tourism and hospitality information databases, as well as analytical software. Specific emphasis is given to econometric modeling of tourism assets that have cross and/or spatial dependence, in conjunction with applicable urban economics and finance theories.

THM 3321 “Tourism Planning and Development” Temple University Spring 2018-
This course provides an analysis of the socioeconomic planning process involved in developing tourism destinations in global, community, metropolitan, urban, and rural settings. Emphasis will be given to policy and product development, regeneration and enhancement of facilities and services to meet the needs of tourists.

THM 5313 “Financial Management in Tourism and Hospitality” Temple University Spring 2015-
This course provides accounting and financial analytical tools required at the managerial level, along with the discussion on applicable corporate finance and economic theories, in tourism and hospitality industry. Topics include analysis and interpretation of financial statements, valuation of securities and cost of capital, as well as strategic capital structure decisions. Computer applications are highlighted throughout the semester.

This course is designed to provide students with knowledge of the fundamental concepts and tools that represent the core of financial management. The course will particularly emphasize the financial function and issues in a hospitality organization and will provide the student with applications of financial concepts in the context of hospitality financial management.

THM 2311 “Global Issues in Tourism and Hospitality Management” Temple University Fall 2013-
This course concentrates on international and global issues in the tourism and hospitality industry. Problems and characteristics specific to the international aspect of the tourism and hospitality industries will be examined. By the end of the course students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing international tourism and hospitality. Students will also improve their knowledge of world geography and international players through the exploration of developed and potential tourist areas. Contemporary issues, as they relate to social and economic trends, are explored.

GEA 1000 “Geography for a Changing World” University of Florida Fall 2011- Spring 2013
The course seeks to give students a regional perspective on issues pertaining to important urban, economics, environmental, geomorphologic and climatic issues in the world. The causes of problems associated with these issues and the possible solutions will be discussed. Students will be expected to use map interpretation skills to analyze data and draw inferences and conclusions about real world phenomena. Topics covered are such as an overview in geography discipline, population change, GIS and remote sensing, deforestation, globalization, etc.
