Dr. Yang Yang was featured in MRM Research Roundup: Holiday Edition by Modern Restaurant Management, where he discussed his influential research on the early effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on U.S. restaurant demand and the industry’s resilience. As an associate professor in Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management, he highlighted how pandemic conditions and stay-at-home orders sharply reduced restaurant demand and noted that fast-food operations showed relatively greater resilience than full-service establishments. Dr. Yang also introduced the Restaurant Resilience Index, a novel data-driven tool comparing county-level household food-away-from-home expenditures before and during the initial pandemic phase to help guide industry planning and preparedness for future disruptions.
