Joe Camarena is a penetration tester who believes the strongest security programs recognize that understanding human behavior is just as important as understanding technology. Drawing on a background in psychology and hands-on experience assessing internal and external networks, web applications, APIs, cloud environments, and hardware systems, he combines technical expertise with a people-first approach to helping organizations strengthen their security posture. Before entering penetration testing, Joe operated an IT and cybersecurity consulting business serving individuals and small businesses. He is passionate about cybersecurity education and mentorship, having tutored students in web development, psychology, and computer science, and volunteered as Community Event Coordinator for Simply Cyber to help engage and grow the cybersecurity community. Joe has also been an active supporter of the scambaiting community for years and volunteered at the Scambait Village during DEF CON 34, reflecting his commitment to combating fraud through education, ethical security practices, and community engagement – all grounded in his belief that the strongest security solutions are built by putting people first.
