Exton Howard is a penetration tester with experience in network, web applications, wireless, physical devices, and social engineering assessments. Social engineering has become one of his favorite parts of the job, and he has conducted many successful campaigns professionally, competed in the Social Engineering Community Vishing Competition at Defcon 34, and participated in a live cold call at DEF CON 33. One thing Exton has learned throughout his career is that security doesn’t work if people don’t understand it or can’t realistically follow it. He believes good security should be easy to understand, practical, and simple enough for non-technical people to use every day. Outside of cybersecurity, Exton has directed award-winning shows, volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, helped fundraise for Special Olympics, and ran for political office out of a desire to get involved and help people in his community. He also enjoys helping people find their way into cybersecurity and grow in their careers. Exton brings those experiences to the SEC Advisory Board with the hope of helping create a competition where students can challenge themselves, learn how social engineering works in the real world, and have some fun along the way.
