The STM labs and the Physics Department recently moved in the new Science and Education Research Center. The building with 247,000 SF, is one of the largest buildings devoted exclusively to scientific research in the Philadelphia region. The ultra-low-vibration STM labs are located in the basement of this building and host two UHV STMs. The instruments  are placed on 40 tons inertia block separated from the main building and floating on air dampers. The UHV-STM is surrounded by an acoustic and rf-shielded room. All the control electronics is placed outside the room.
