The Power of Procedure and the Legitimacy of International Courts
In Spring 2017, the Carnell Chair sponsored a seminar presentation by Professor Hélène Ruiz Fabri, Director of the Max Planck Institute (Luxembourg), on the various strategies that international tribunals use in creating and deploying procedural norms designed to enhance their sociological and normative legitimacy. Before joining the Max Planck Insitute, Professor Ruiz Fabri served as Dean of the University of Paris I Panthéon – Sorbonne Law Faculty and as Presi dent of the European Society of International Law. She has published widely across diverse fields of international law, including dispute settlement, international trade law, international environmental law, and the independence and impartiality of international judges and arbitrators. In 2015, she received the prestigious Medailles d’argent from the Centre National de Recherche Scientifique (National Center for Scientific Research).
