Sites.temple.edu will undergo scheduled maintenance on Wednesday, August 10th, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.

WordPress core, security, and PHP will be upgraded. No action is needed by site administrators. There may be intermittent access during this time.

WordPress core and PHP will be updated to the latest version.

Temple Sites October 17th Upgrade

Sites.temple.edu will undergo scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Plugins and themes will be updated. There may be intermittent access during this time.

After the maintenance, Computer Services recommends that site administrators check their site to ensure the plugins and other features are still functioning properly.

July 11th WordPress Upgrade

Gallery Theme Update

Computer Services will be updating the Gallery theme on Sites.temple.edu on Wednesday, May 17 from 6:00 to 6:30 pm.

When the change is made, the Gallery theme will revert to the default settings. Your content will carry over, but any changes you made to the theme’s appearance will not carry over to the new version. Once the theme is updated on Sites.temple.edu, you will need to manually redo any changes to the theme’s appearance that you want to keep.

Users who have sites using the Gallery theme have been notified and given additional instructions via email. For more information on the Gallery theme, see the UpThemes Gallery Knowledge Base.

January WordPress Upgrade

EDIT: Maintenance complete!

Sites.temple.edu will undergo scheduled maintenance on Wednesday, January 25th, 2017 from 6 PM to 7 PM. WordPress core, plugins, and themes will be upgraded. There may be intermittent access during this time.

WordPress core will be upgraded to 4.7. This version of WordPress has video header support, PDF preview, editor improvements, and other updates under the hood. Read more about WordPress 4.7.

All plugins and themes will be updated to their latest stable version. Additionally, the Juicer plugin has been installed.

Moving to New Servers

Edit: The server move was successful! Please open a ticket if any problems are noticed. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

On Wednesday, November 9th from 6 to 10 PM, the Sites.temple.edu infrastructure will be moved to new servers. The URL will not change and all sites will be moved to the new servers. No action is needed by site administrators or users.

Starting at 6 PM, all logins will be disabled while the data is moved to the new servers. Downtime will be minimal. Please note that any Gravity Forms on your site will be temporarily disabled to prevent any submissions from being lost.

The new servers are more powerful, have an updated operating system, and have the latest version of PHP installed. The site will also automatically use secure HTTPS connections.

In addition to the new server infrastructure, all plugins and themes will be updated to the latest stable versions. The login code will also be updated and, as a result, departmental accounts will no longer be able to login. Please use individual AccessNet accounts instead. Multiple users can be added to a site if required.

Introducing the My Sites Page

Today, I am proud to introduce the My Sites page. There is now one place to view all of the websites that you have access to, and quickly get where you need to go to manage your sites.

We have also upgraded WordPress and all plugins and themes to their latest versions, and added support for the BadgeOS and Fourteen Colors plugins.

Introducing a completely updated Temple University Sites

With over a dozen new themes to choose from, and a completely redesigned website we are hoping to make creating WordPress websites at Temple as easy as possible. You can now quickly sign up for a new site with one click in our simplified signup form.

WordPress

WordPress will be upgraded to version 3.8.1. This update features a a great new modern design, improved typography and improved customization.

New menu, theme, and widget pages make customizing your site easier than ever.

The new, robust post editor features an elegant new way to browse through revisions and view the changes to your articles line-by-line.

Themes

Visit our new themes page to browse and preview over 20 available themes now available for use. Click on any theme to view a live preview of the theme or to create a site with that theme.

Templates Re-imagined

Our new quick-start templates allow you to begin making your site with sensible defaults that match your needs. Once you create a site with one of these templates they will have some plugins and sample content pre-loaded to guide you through the site creation process. And these templates still offer complete customization; feel free to try them with a different theme, or new plugins.

Plugin Updates

All WordPress plugins have been updated to their latest versions.

Updates: WordPress 3.5.1, Gallery theme, and more

WordPress Core

WordPress will be updated from version 3.4.2 to version 3.5.1. You can get a quick overview of the new features in WordPress 3.5.

Themes

We will add the Gallery, and Hum to our growing list of supported themes.

Plugin Updates

All plugins will be updated to their latest versions. Additionally, site administrators will have the option of disabling the WPTouch plugin by going to Plugins and then clicking Deactivate. This plugin is currently active on all sites without the option of disabling it.

Updates: WordPress 3.4, Twenty Twelve theme, and more

The following changes will implemented on November 26th, 2012.

WordPress Core

WordPress will be updated from version 3.2.1 to version 3.4.2. There are a lot of changes between these releases. You can get a quick overview of the new features in WordPress 3.3 and WordPress 3.4.

Themes

The new default theme for WordPress, Twenty Twelve, will be installed. We also have updates ready for Twenty Ten, Twenty Eleven, and Viscous.

Plugin Updates

In addition to updating all plugins to their latest versions, we will install some new plugins:

  • Ensemble Video: Allows for easy ensemble video embeds.
  • QuickLogin: Press esc key to login to WordPress from anywhere on your site.
  • Jetpack: Adds many new features. Visit http://www.jetpack.me for details.
  • The Events Calendar: An advanced calendar plugin.
  • WP Super FAQ: Easily create a dynamic FAQ section on your site.

Plugins Removed

In an effort to keep this service as simple as possible we will be retiring the following plugins:

  • Blog in Blog
  • Google Analyticator (users will be automatically migrated to another Google Analytics plugin)
  • My Category Order
  • Blubrry PowerPress

Updates: Fusion theme, Importers, and more

New features added to the server:

Themes

Computer Services updated all the existing themes and added a new theme called Fusion.

If you wish to change your theme, go the Appearance tab in the dashboard of your site and click Themes. There you can view the available themes and preview them for your site.

Important Note: If you click Activate to select a different theme, all settings (including colors, headers, widgets, and menus) will be lost, even if you switch back to your original theme.


Plugins

Computer Services updated existing plugins and added the following new plugins:

  • Blog in Blog – enables categorized blog posts to appear as separate pages. This can make it easier for readers to view your thoughts on specific topics. For more information, go to http://WordPress.org/extend/plugins/blog-in-blog.
  • EG-Attachments – enables you to easily manage attachments for your page or post using a shortcode or a button on the editor. For more information, go tohttp://www.emmanuelgeorjon.com/eg-attachments-1233.
  • Google Analyticator – adds the necessary code to use Google’s Analytics for your site. After enabling this plugin, visit the settings page and enter your Google Analytics UID and enable logging. For more information, go tohttp://ronaldheft.com/code/analyticator.
  • Promotion Slider – create a slideshow (or slider) on your site. When you install this plugin you will see a ‘Promotions’ tab. You can use this tab to create special posts that are used to populate the slideshow.  You can then use the shortcode [promoslider] to display the slider on your site. Importers

Computer Services added the following new ways to import content into your site from other services: 

  • Blogger
  • Movable Type Backups
  • Movable Type and TypePad
  • RSS file
