Teaching with Technology Statement

As a nurse educator, I believe that technology is an essential tool for enhancing student learning, promoting engagement, and preparing future nurses for today’s healthcare environment. My approach to teaching with technology aligns with my philosophy of creating a supportive, respectful, and student-centered learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, participating actively, and developing confidence in their knowledge and skills.

I use technology to promote active learning rather than passive information delivery. Learning management systems provide students with organized course materials, discussion forums, and timely feedback, allowing them to access resources and communicate outside the classroom. Interactive tools such as online quizzes, polling applications, and case based learning activities encourage students to assess their understanding and apply theoretical concepts to realistic clinical situations.

Simulation technology is particularly valuable in nursing education because it allows students to practice clinical decision making, communication, and technical skills in a safe environment before caring for actual patients. I also value virtual simulations and educational videos that expose students to diverse clinical scenarios and reinforce classroom instruction.

Technology also supports my use of the teach-back method. Students can demonstrate their understanding through recorded presentations, online discussions, reflective assignments, and virtual demonstrations, allowing me to identify misconceptions and provide individualized, constructive feedback. This approach strengthens student confidence while promoting critical thinking and clinical reasoning.

While I embrace educational technology, I believe it should complement not replace the human connection that is central to nursing education. I strive to use technology intentionally to increase accessibility, foster collaboration, accommodate diverse learning styles, and maintain meaningful instructor-student relationships.

My goal is to prepare nursing students to become competent, compassionate professionals who can confidently integrate technology into evidence based patient care while continuing to value empathy, communication, and lifelong learning.
