Temple University Press – acquisitions intern

Temple University Press was founded in 1969 and publishes award-winning books in the social sciences and humanities, as well as books about Philadelphia and the surrounding region (http://tupress.temple.edu/). We are seeking students who want to learn about the publishing industry through hands-on, meaningful work.

The acquisitions department is responsible for soliciting, evaluating, and developing book projects and managing those projects until they are ready for production. Acquisitions editors build the Press’s lists in various fields in the humanities, social sciences, and titles of regional Philadelphia interest.

The intern supports the work of the acquisitions editors and gains hands-on experience with key aspects of scholarly book publishing. They assist with management of the peer review process, read and evaluate book proposals, discuss potential new projects, correspond with scholars, maintain information in the Press database, and provide general administrative support.

Successful candidates will be detail oriented, organized, and efficient. Exceptional written and oral communication skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications are essential to this position. Freshmen, sophomore, or junior humanities majors preferred.
