Watch Cars, talk about it, and learn how to turn your passions into research!

What can we learn about freedom from the window seat? How about the movie screen, the lyrics of a song, or the animated figurines on an old neon sign? After this screening of Cars (2006), we’re going to talk about the power of pop culture to reveal and conceal important ideas — like freedom of the open road — in our world.
We’re joined by Jake Wolff, a PhD student who lived in New Mexico near the fictionalized town featured in the film. He began thinking about his grad school research on the same topic in 2015 with an Instagram post captioned “Realize Route 66 is a dead end idea.” We’ll use this conversation to brainstorm how to turn our intellectual curiosities into independent research.
(PS – there will be pizza and popcorn!)
