Finding Our Voices: Humanities in Medicine

Saturday, September 21, 2024 // 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM

@ HUB for Collaboration – Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia

Healthcare professionals face stress and challenges in their daily work and often lack the space and time to voice their experiences, connect with colleagues and self to find meaning in their work. This conference aims to provide an opportunity to all those who deliver healthcare to learn and practice narrative skills through writing, reflection, art observation and improvisation.

Keynote address will focus on the challenges of uncertainty in healthcare. Break-out sessions will focus on participation with writing, advocacy, visual thinking strategies through art and observation, medical improv and program development in the humanities and podcasts as communication tools for sharing knowledge and stories.

Objectives:

⭐ Use narrative skills to voice personal and professional experiences in healthcare

⭐ Develop communication skills through visual thinking strategies and improvisation

⭐ Utilize creativity to develop empathy and self-awareness to improve the performance of a multidisciplinary team in providing humanistic healthcare
