Dr. Liu is guest editing a special issue on bio-inspired systems

Dr. Liu has been invited as a guest associate editor for a special issue on Bio-inspired Systems by the ASME Journal of Vibration and Acoustics. Topics to be covered in the special issue will include modeling of dynamical and acoustical structures in biological systems; bio-inspired acoustic and vibrational sensors and actuators; bio-inspired materials and structures for vibration control and isolation; vibration and acoustics-based energy harvesting inspired by biological materials and structures; and bio-inspired robotics.

The deadline to submit a paper is June 1, 2018.

Welcome to our new member Xiaolei!

Xiaolei Song joins LISTEN Lab as a Ph.D. student in August, 2017. Xiaolei received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Zhengzhou University, and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Beijing University of Technology. Welcome to Temple and our group, Xiaolei!

Dr. Zhijian Zhang joins LISTEN Lab on 7/28/2017 as a Volunteer Postdoctoral Researcher. Zhijian obtained his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park in May, 2017. He will work on fiber optic sensors for ultrasonic imaging. Welcome, Zhijian!

Undergraduate students Ibrahim Alsheikh and Will Thompson join LISTEN lab

We welcome two undergraduate student researchers Will Thompson and Ibrahim Alsheikh into our group. Will is a graduating senior majoring in mechanical engineering at Temple, and joined LISTEN Lab as an undergraduate researcher in April, 2017. He is expecting to graduate in December, 2017. Ibrahim is rising sophomore student of mechanical engineering at University of California Irvine. He came to Listen Lab through the Temple Global Education and Experience (GET) summer program on June 26, 2017 and ended his research program on July 13, 2017.

Dr. Liu receives an NSF award

Dr. Haijun LiuDr. Liu receives an NSF award, titled “Doubly Negative Acoustic Metamaterials with Air-Coupled Diaphragms”, from the Dynamics, Control and System Diagnosis (DCSD) program. Starting from July 1, 2017, this three-year award for a total of $313,561 will enable Dr. Liu and his group to conduct research into a new type of doubly negative acoustic metamaterial that has the potential to transform many applications requiring double negativity (e.g. sub-wavelength imaging and transformation acoustics) and complex geometry (e.g. acoustic metasurface).

Ph.D. student Qian Dong joins Listen Lab

Mr. Qian Dong joins Listen Lab as a new Ph.D. student starting from Fall, 2016. He previously received his B.S. Mechanical Engineering from Taiyuan University of Technology, China, and M.S. in Material Science from New Jersey Institute of Technology. Welcome to the group, Qian!
