Hi Everyone! Welcome! I’m really excited about the 7 C’s of Nursing Excellence Reflective Video Project.
Based on the Universal Design for Learning Guidelines that I studied this past summer, this project allows for all students to engage with material through multiple means of representation, engagement, and that provides multiple active and expression opportunities to produce higher-order thinking based learning outcomes to build deeper connections for long-term retention of content and skills application.
As you look at this wheel you will see that it is comprised of not just a random algebraic equation but a intentional circular graphic that holds the 7C’s of Nursing Excellence: Compassion, Competency, Communication, Commitment, Critical-Thinking, and Collaboration. These seven characteristics, are arranged in a circle — and that’s not an accident. A circle doesn’t have a starting point or a finish line. It rolls. It keeps moving….but the direction is up to you. These seven characteristics are the momentum, the fuel that drives your nursing practice. And that’s exactly how I want you to think about nursing excellence: not as a destination you arrive at and check off, but as something that keeps turning, keeps rolling forward, striving for excellence, not perfection, a wheel of movement to keep bettering YOUR BEST! as you EVOLVE for your entire career.
NOTE: Here’s the truth: none of us — not me, not your clinical instructors, not the most experienced nurse on any unit — has ever “arrived” at excellence. We’re not chasing perfection. Perfection isn’t real, it’s an illusion, no matter how real the “reels” look, and chasing it will burn you out. What we’re chasing is something better…compassionate, competent, consistent care.. every shift, every patient, every time.
