Marina Garwood

Marina Garwood (she/her) is a PhD student in the Cordes Lab. She studies deep-sea ecosystems and the ecological processes that shape benthic communities. Her work connects science and policy, aiming to strengthen how deep-sea research and ocean governance interact.

Before starting her PhD, Marina earned an M.S. in International Marine Science and taught undergraduate biology labs at Temple University. She also works with the Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative (DOSI) Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ) working group, collaborating on projects related to the United Nations BBNJ Agreement and the International Seabed Authority. She is an eager explorer who aims to bridge science, policy, and community to support informed and responsible ocean management.
