Academic Integrity in a Postplagiarism World: The Impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence on Teaching, Learning, and Assessment
Wednesday, January 10

Join us for a thought-provoking look at current and upcoming issues related to the use of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools for teaching, learning, and assessment, focusing on Large Language Models (LLMs). We will look at ethical challenges and opportunities to help future-proof the integrity of higher education. We’ll also look at current trends and strategies used across the post-secondary sector to uphold academic integrity – what works, what doesn’t, and how to make evidence-informed decisions about assessment and academic integrity. By the end of this presentation, you’ll be inspired to think about yourself as an ethical educator with a purpose-driven commitment to preparing students for a future in which artificial intelligence is sure to play a role.

Plenary Session: Dr. Sharla Berry

Teaching with Technology: Holistic Pedagogies in a Time of Change
Thursday, January 11

Higher education has faced a range of changes in the last few years. Online learning, and now Artificial Intelligence have dramatically altered how we think about teaching and learning. This session will focus on the paradigm shifts that these innovations are pointing us toward, and how we might shift our mindsets toward a more holistic perspective on technology integration. In this talk we will explore the social, cultural, and technical implications of our evolving digital learning landscape. Using an equity-oriented lens, this session will explore the possibilities and limitations of emerging technologies, and consider how they can be ultimately leveraged to support our overarching goals of student engagement and academic excellence.

Workshops

Distinguished faculty across Temple who have completed our Provost’s Teaching Academy will be facilitating 60-minute, interactive workshops on day 1 of the conference. The workshop topics will build on the theme of the conference and on the topics presented by our keynote and plenary speakers. In the workshops, you will have the chance to take a deeper dive into select topics and apply what you have learned to your own courses.

Breakout Sessions

These peer-reviewed 45-minute interactive sessions generally include a “mini-lecture” format with activities and demonstrations of teaching methods, as well as guided discussions about the topic at hand. Topics include engaging students, deepening learning, harnessing emotion in the classroom, teaching with technology, and maximizing the benefits of different modalities of teaching in higher education. Breakout sessions will take place on day 2 of the conference.

Lightning Talks

Lightning Talks are 15-minute peer-reviewed mini-sessions to learn about creative teaching ideas that colleagues have implemented. The talks are designed to provide brief introductions and explanations of the idea followed by a question and answer period. Talks are presented multiple times, providing participants the opportunity to hear multiple presentations. Lightning Talks will take place on day 2 of the conference.

A.I Playground

Get ready for some AI fun at our conference’s AI Playground! Try out AI tools for text, images, audio, and more to discover their impact on student learning and have a blast doing it. Come join us, and let’s explore together!

Poster Presentations

Highlighting novel classroom-based research and creative teaching and learning projects, attendees will have access to poster presentations at a dedicated time on day 1 of the conference. Attendees will also have an opportunity to discuss live the showcased scholarship with their creators during this time period.

Networking

This year’s Annual Faculty Conference remains a fully interactive event with opportunities to network, catch up with colleagues, and find space to discuss exciting topics.
