EDITORIAL BOARDS

Aquatic Microbial Ecology – I’ve been an editor for AME since 1994.  As a leading journal in its field, AME covers all aspects of aquatic microbial dynamics, in particular viruses, prokaryotes and eukaryotes — planktonic and benthic, autotrophic and heterotrophic — in marine, limnetic and brackish waters. Manuscripts are  submitted directly to the Managing Editor.  Click on this LINK and select Guidelines for Authors for more details.

Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology – After previously serving on the Board of Reviewers, I was an Assistant Editor from 2009 through 2014.  Submissions to J Euk Microbiol can be made to the editor via this LINK. The journal, linked to the International Society of Protistologists, publishes original research on protists – including “protozoa,” lower algae and fungi. Articles are published covering behavior, biochemistry, cell biology, chemotherapy, development, ecology, evolution, genetics, molecular biology, morphogenetics, parasitology, systematics, and ultrastructure.

Journal of Plankton Research – I joined the Editorial Board of JPR in 2007 and decided to resign in December 2011.  All kinds of marine, brackish and freshwater plankton are considered: viruses, bacteria, fungi, phytoplankton, and zooplankton, including meroplankton and ichthyoplankton. Use this LINK to find information for submitting a manuscript to JPR.

SCIENTIFIC SOCIETIES

International Society of Protistologists (ISOP) (link) – The Society is an association of scientists from all over the world who are devoted to research on single-celled eukaryotes, or protists. ISOP publishes The Journal of Eukaryotic Microbiology (see above). I have been a member since 1984, and served The Society on the Editorial Board, the Program Committee, the Executive Committee and as President (2009 – 2010).

Association for the Sciences of Limnology & Oceanography (ASLO) (link) – ASLO has long been a leading professional organization for researchers and educators in the field of aquatic science. Probably best known for its highly rated research journals, interdisciplinary meetings and special symposia. The society increasingly supports programs in public education, outreach and public policy, and strongly encourages student participation. I have been a member since 1982.

Phycological Society of America (PSA) (link) – The Phycological Society of America was founded in 1946 to promote research and teaching in all fields of Phycology. The society publishes the Journal of Phycology and the Phycological Newsletter..

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society (link) The international honor society of science and engineering founded in 1886, Sigma Xi has nearly 60,000 members who were elected to membership based on their research potential or achievements. I was elected to membership in 1982.
