(PR Lead) Justin Pham
I hope everyone had an amazing Winter Break! We cannot wait to continue what we had going into the Spring.
This will be our new way of communicating with you! Think of it like a grab-bag–a mix of everything you need to know with our club. Or if you’re an Overwatch player, a grav-bag. I remember when the Overwatch League used to write weekly “grav-bags” that talked about the league… until they got rid of their esports writers.
To recap, last Fall, we had a successful season while also learning what’s needed to run an esports club that both players and community members can enjoy. We’ll be applying these lessons this Spring semester. There will be more events than ever that both community members and players can take part of!

Fall Highlights

Run It Back is a yearly event that features both Rocket League and Valorant. Temple Esports sent both RL and Valorant Cherry teams to compete in the main Run It Back event, which features other colleges/universities around the nation. Both Drexel and Temple would be competing from Localhost Philly.

Some matches were streamed by Xfinity themselves. It wasn’t just about the competition, but was a community event where people were able to network and celebrate collegiate esports as a whole. There were free food, giveaways, pick-up games for many different titles, and showcase matches involving Temple’s Valorant White team against Drexel’s D2 team.

It was a great way to build our relationship with Drexel Esports and we hope to be working along side with them soon hopefully in the near future!
You can check the event VOD here!
Chinatown Night Market Event
Who doesn’t love the sound of music, live performances, and the sizzle of food vendors cooking up street food? We went AFK (literally) and made a trip to Chinatown for the annual YèShì Night Market event. There were many vibrant food vendors outside across 10th and Race St with many performances going on at Arch and 10th. (Personally, the pork-buns from Sang Kee were the best)

MACS (Mid-Atlantic Championship Series)

Localhost Philly hosted the MACS, a collegiate esports tournament featuring titles like League of Legends, Overwatch, and Rainbow Six across multiple weekends. It is a program that provides a true LAN experience for collegiate teams as many matches and tournaments are typically played online.
Our friends at TEC-TV did an interview segment during Overwatch MACS that you should definitely check out!
Temple Esports League of Legends Cherry takes first place after an outstanding win and takes the MACS LoL trophy.

Tryouts
As a new semester looms, it means that we’ll be running more tryouts! Here is a list of dates and times for tryouts corresponding to each game:
- Overwatch 2: January 12 & 15 at 6PM
- Rainbow 6 Siege: January 14 & 15 (Time: TBA)
- Rocket League: January 5 & 6 at 7:30PM
- League of Legends: January 13 & 14 at 7:00PM
- Valorant: January 15 & 16 at 7:30PM
- Apex: January 9 & 10 at 8:00PM
- CoD: January 10 & 17 (Time: TBA)
Unfortunately, we didn’t see much interest in CS2 this semester, but no worries, we’ll be hosting some CS2 community events which hopefully will spark some interest in the game again.
Conclusion
As mentioned previously, we’re taking lessons from last year and applying it to this semester. Our goal is to be as transparent as possible and will explore different approaches to how we communicate, finding better ways to showcase our players who work very hard throughout their competitive season. We’re going to provide the best experience you could ever get from an esports club. This includes side tournaments, content revolving our players, and more events. While we cannot reveal everything just yet since not everything is set in stone, we’re excited to present what we’ve been cooking. It’s a new year, so let’s start this semester off strong!
