Something that has consistently amazed me about being a Temple student is the vast amount of events and resources that are available to take advantage of and utilize. Unsurprisingly, many of these events are pre-planned and require registration, but some can happen spontaneously and always pop-up around campus. These events can even extend to in-class time, as was the case with Dr. Scott Gratson’s Communication and Public Life class on November 8th. Traditionally, the class meets in Gladfelter Hall for a lecture session, but on this particular Tuesday Dr. Gratson took the class on his Creepy Campus Tour, an event he’s done with many of his classes in years past.

Though our class was smaller that day due to Election Day voting, walking Temple’s campus with Dr. Gratson and fellow students was quite an enjoyable experience for me personally. I have always loved hearing facts about locations and participated in a number of tours growing up, so this event was something that was right up my alley. Our group explored the Founder’s Garden and observed the oldest buildings on campus, ones that existed when Temple University (then called Temple College) was founded.

Getting involved in student-run clubs and organizations is certainly important for student success, but taking advantage of opportunities like this to connect with a professor and exploring the campus is something that directly correlates to a new student being successful as well. Getting to know your professors after-class and during their office hours is something that gets noticed, and by taking the time to speak to those who want to help you learn and succeed, you put yourself on that direct path for Temple success.
