David W. Brown currently serves as Assistant Professor of Instruction for the School of Media and Communication at Temple University and is the faculty advisor to the student chapter of Black Public Relations Society (BPRS). He studied journalism at Duquesne University and received his Masters degree in Theology from Palmer Theological Seminary.
David has run or created three different advertising agencies in Philadelphia. His most successful was BrownPartners – which became one of the most decorated minority-owned ad agencies in the history of Philadelphia’s advertising industry.
David is an ordained Reverend in the United Methodist Church where he serves on the staff of Wharton-Wesley United Methodist Church in Philadelphia. His career also includes serving as General Manager for 900 AM WURD – Pennsylvania’s only black-owned talk radio station.
David is a past recipient of the Speaker of the Year by the Pennsylvania Communication Society and was inducted to the Public Relations Hall of Fame by the Philadelphia Public Relations Association – and is the only living person of color of this distinguished group of practitioners. Brown also has the distinction of being the only person (black or white) to have served over his career as both the President of the Public Relations Society of America’s Philadelphia chapter and the Philadelphia Advertising Club. He has been named one of the “40 Under 40 Leaders” by the PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL and was named by the publication as one of the Top Minority Business leaders in the region.
David is a frequent columnist for the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, PHILADELPHIA TRIBUNE and PHILADELPHIA BUSINESS JOURNAL. He has served as a lecturer at Duquesne University, Lincoln University, University of the Arts, Arcadia University, Philadelphia University, Temple, LaSalle and Rowan University.
Finally, David was named a “Champion of Change” by the Obama Administration and has been to the White House to share his insights on empowering non-profits to make a difference in the communities they serve.
