Faculty: All faculty from all colleges at Temple University who desire to develop or participate in international research collaborations are welcomed.
Feel free to reach out to Dr. Graciela Jaschek, at graciela.jaschek@temple.edu with any inquiries.
How do I join PHBB (class)?
If you’re interested in taking part in the development of public health educational activities and the opportunity to travel for a project, there are specific course registrations required. Undergraduate students should register for EPBI 3377+EPBI 3387 PHBB International Experience (2+1 credits), while graduate students should enroll in EPBI 5587 PHBB International Experience (3 credits). Please note that the associated travel expenses, including flights, accommodations, and transportation for a 10-14 day period during Winter or Summer Breaks, are the responsibility of the student, unless alternative funding sources are available.
If you have any questions, please contact the course instructor, Dr. Graciela Jaschek, at graciela.jaschek@temple.edu. Feel free to reach out to her with any inquiries or for further guidance.
Can I volunteer in a specific country project without registering for the class?
If you have a passion for global health and are interested in supporting PHBB’s initiatives in international communities, you are welcome to volunteer your time by joining the Public Health Beyond Borders Student Organization, or you can register for the EPBI 3377 course (2 credits) which allows you to participate in the development of the educational activities and materials but you are not required to travel.
Do I need to be fluent in the country’s language to participate?
No. Fluency in the language is not required, as there are numerous primary activities and supportive roles that can be carried out effectively without knowledge of the country’s language.
Why Should You Consider Supporting PHBB Student Travel?
At Temple University, 84% of our students receive financial aid, often balancing demanding course loads (which may exceed the traditional four classes) with work responsibilities to support both themselves and their families.

Is PHBB a non-profit organization?
We are not a non-profit organization; rather, we operate as a specialized program within the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Temple. Our primary mission is to facilitate hands-on global health opportunities for students while fostering research collaborations with institutions in the global communities we are dedicated to serve.
