who we are
Founded in 2021, Lunar Journal is Temple University’s first and only literature and arts magazine with a focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
Lunar Journal aims to amplify and give voice to those who, historically, have been silenced. We work to foster an inclusive community of creatives associated with Temple University in order to produce high-quality and important art.
what we do
We accept submissions of art (both written and visual) that incorporate or respond to themes like race, gender, sexuality, identity, activism, and others related. All submissions are reviewed anonymously save for our Editor-in-Chief.
Our members provide feedback on submissions and select pieces for publication in our annual lit mag. In addition to our physical publication every Spring, we frequently publish pieces on our blog.
Lunar Journal holds regular weekly meetings during the academic year- holidays and conflicts permitting- as well as social events for bonding purposes. These events are open to all Temple University students, regardless of their major.
To stay up-to-date with events, follow us on socials and apply for membership via Owl Connect.
why we do it
Simply put, we want to celebrate the talents of artists from every background. Gone are the days of authors looking the same, speaking the same, and creating the same.
There was a need for a creative space on campus that was dedicated to issues of identity. At its heart, Lunar Journal is about building a safe and encouraging community where we can all take time to learn about one another’s experiences- and share our own.
We created Lunar Journal because we believe that every person is an artist.
