meet the team

Lauren Jade Dannels

Lauren (any pronouns) is the Editor in Chief of Lunar Journal. They are an artist, educator, and magpie of life’s oddities from Rota, Spain – amongst other places. They’re a wayward critter with a passport and a plan, known as a local in multiple time zones. A junior in art education and unapologetic Tyler kid, when they’re not creating, they’re known as Aperol Spritz’s only natural predator. Their favorite literature includes The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear by Don and Audrey Wood and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

Tori Kaufman

Tori (she/her) is the Managing Editor of Lunar Journal. She is a junior Nursing major from Harrisburg, PA. She enjoys using solitare, sudoku, watercolors, and going to bed by 9PM as an escape from studying. Some of her favorite reads are Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler and Song of Myself by Walt Whitman.

Meztli Kahlo Garza

Meztli (she/her) is secretary of Lunar Journal and hails from Dallas, Texas. A third year architecture major, writer, illustrator, and new wave music fanatic, she exists in an impossible inner world of neo-noir fantasy, and believes she is the next Rust Cohle. Meztli enjoys art that captures the human experience through abstract ideas, oddities, obsession, and vulnerability. She loves the bleak and the beautiful, and her favorites works include the poetry of David Berman, M Train by Patti Smith, and any substack read she comes across online.

Triniti Powell

Triniti (she/her) is the Treasurer of Lunar Journal and a Pittsburgh native. She is known to take down a couple pickles, blow through a county fair like a PA storm, and occasionally dabble in yall and yinzer phonics. Triniti finds pride in keeping not just Lunar’s change, but black history in any form. From Afrofuturism and cornrows to rhythm and blues, she enjoys art and literature that makes it feel like someone has been in your shoes. Her favorite literary work includes How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Livery and Entertaining guide to Reading Between the Lines by Thomas C. Foster.

Eve Keesecker

Eve (she/her) is the Student Government Representative and STARS Coordinator of Lunar Journal. She is a junior double major in English and Journalism. Her favorite book is Humans of New York by Brandon Stanton. Eve has a passion for connecting with humans and all their fun stories.

Carissa Harris

Carissa (she/her) is the Faculty Advisor of Lunar Journal. She teaches in Temple’s English Department and Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies Program. She researches and writes about gender and sexuality in the Middle Ages, with particular interests in sexual consent and reproductive justice. The courses she teaches at Temple include Social Justice and Literature: Me Too in Context, Historical Fiction: Powerful Medieval Women, Medieval Sexualities, and Feminist Theory Now. She’s long been a supporter of Lunar Journal (some of her students were its founders!), and she’s thrilled to be involved in a more direct role.
