Bloom’s Taxonomy is a hierarchical framework for categorizing educational goals, objectives, and standards, originally developed by Benjamin Bloom and colleagues in 1956. In 2001, the taxonomy was revised to reflect a better contemporary understanding. It classifies cognitive skills into six levels, from basic to advanced: Remembering, Understanding, Applying, Analyzing, Evaluating, and Creating. By integrating Bloom’s Taxonomy, CTE teachers can design curricula and instruction that build foundational knowledge and progressively develop the advanced skills students need for successful careers in technical fields.
