The goal of this training is to support peer support specialists who are working with individuals diagnosed with mental health conditions and those who are at risk for type 2 diabetes. There are various lessons that make up the training series, each focusing on specific areas or topics related to mental health and diabetes.
In each lesson you will find:
- information you need to know on the lesson’s topics
- stories from individuals with lived experience
- a peer focus
- knowledge check-ins
The Peer Focus is intended to help you think about how this information directly connects to your role as a peer. And the knowledge ‘check-ins’ are intended to help you make sure you understand key information.
This training was developed by the Temple University Collaborative on Community Inclusion, Yvette Pate, and Onzie Travis and funded by the Cities Changing Diabetes program. We’d like to thank the individuals who shared their stories of living with a mental health and type 2 diabetes diagnosis with us. These stories helped inform the content of the training and some are featured within the training. If you have any questions, you can contact us at tucollab@temple.edu.
