How can you capture the world in a sculpture? If you’re Rina Banerjee, on fire with thoughts about the South Asian, African and other diasporas and displaced peoples in the world, you include materials from all peoples and places. And tell the story of connections and how split identities are facts that many people live with on a daily basis. Are they Indian, Chinese, Ghanaian, American? It’s much more complex than those labels, and labels fall down on the job of telling the story. See this show of beautiful, provocative works. And before you go, listen to Artblog’s 2016 podcast with PAFA Curator, Jodi Throckmorton, who talks about Banerjee and a host of other topics.
