New Museum Artist Talk: The Plinth and Monumentality

Student Life has received an invitation for Tyler students for a special artist talk in NYC on Thursday, January 16 at 7 p.m.

Taking cues from Hans Haacke’s sculpture Gift Horse (2014), this panel discussion will bring together artist Paul Ramírez JonasKendal Henry, Director of Percent for Art at the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs; and J. Meejin Yoon, Gale and Ira Drukier Dean of the College of Architecture, Art, and Planning at Cornell University, to consider the forms and functions of monuments and memorials today. Andrew An Westover, Keith Haring Director of Education and Public Engagement at the New Museum, will moderate this panel. In light of recent projects that reimagine the plinth and monumental art as sites for historical narratives of triumph or loss, this evening’s conversation will focus on future possibilities for public art.

We are offering a special discount for students—please use coupon code STUDY8 for $2 off the general admission ticket for a discounted $8 ticket to the public program.

Tickets available here.
