The West High class of 1976 was a special group of people. We had the distinction of graduating in the same year as the United States’ 200th birthday, and we qualified as a designated bicentennial school.
In 2026, as American celebrates its 250th birthday, our class will celebrate its 50th reunion. During these years since graduation, we have lost many friends among our classmates.
The West High Class of 1976 Memorial Scholarship has been created to honor the classmates we have lost while providing a Waterloo high school graduate a scholarship to help continue their education. We will award the first $1000 scholarship spring 2026, just in time for our 50th.
We continue to welcome donations to the scholarship fund. The more money we raise, the more scholarship funds we can award. Donation can be made to the general fund or in the memory of a special Wahawk in your life. You can also include this fund in your estate planning.
Here is a description of the scholarship fund:
The West High School Class of 1976 Memorial Scholarship is established in memory of our fellow classmates. Donations may be made to the general fund or in memory of a specific classmate. The scholarship is awarded to a West High School student pursuing advanced education. Applicants must be enrolled in a 2 or 4-year institution in Iowa, have a minimum 2.5 grade point average, and show involvement in extra-curricular activities, volunteer service, or work. Preference will be given to applicants with financial need, as demonstrated in their Free Application for Student Aid Application. This donation is eligible for Endow Iowa Tax Credit.
