The Hatboro Train Station Commuter Lot contained no storm water management or water quality controls before this project was undertaken. In an attempt to create as many parking spots as possible, no landscaping had been considered when the site was first constructed; the resulting lot had been an eyesore and a stormwater nightmare ever since. Multiple BMPs were employed in the renovation of the existing asphalt parking lot, including:
- A central island planter with curb cuts, which acts as vegetated swale for filtration and infiltration, as well as a new underground dry well to capture the infiltrated stormwater.
- New trees and plantings to shade the parking lot and add aesthetic appeal.
- New native plantings that are drought tolerant and are suitable for use in a vegetated swale.
