Build it…

In June 2014 I started work on building a small travel trailer. I bought a 5′ x 8′ utility trailer and used that as the base to begin the build.

After 4 months and a lot of hit and miss, I completed the trailer. It is finished in birch plywood with 4 coats of marine varnish. By using aluminum jacks, the trailer’s ramp serves as a tiny deck. Rolling down the highway, the trailer looks like a rolling cabinet.

The inside is simply a bedroom- a couch during the day and a full size bed for sleeping. I have storage above and below the bed.

Electric power comes in through an extension cord and dropbox and could be powered by a solar system. It is a very simple design- that’s why I call it a turtle shell trailer.
