Objective<\/span><\/h3>

Designing salient digital health interventions requires theoretically\u2010based formative research and user\u2010center design with stakeholder input throughout impacting content and technology design.\u00a0mychoice<\/i>\u00a0is a theory\u2010based, stakeholder\u2010guided digital health tool to improve clinical trial informed decision making, particularly among African American patients.<\/span><\/p><\/section>

Methods<\/span><\/h3>

mychoice<\/i>\u00a0was developed by (1) mixed\u2010methods formative research, including in\u2010depth interviews (n<\/i>=16) and surveys (N<\/i>=41) with African American cancer patients who had and had not participated in a clinical trial; (2) e\u2010tool design process including perceptual mapping analysis to prioritize messages, multi\u2010disciplinary team and stakeholder input; and (3) iterative production and user testing.<\/span><\/p><\/section>

Results<\/span><\/h3>

Interview findings showed that clinical trial participants expressed more positive attributes about and an openness to consider clinical trials, even though they expressed common concerns such as \u201cfear of being a guinea pig\u201d. Survey results indicated that clinical trial participants expressed they had been given information to make the decision (P<\/i>\u00a0= .001), while those who had not more frequently reported (P<\/i>\u00a0> .001) that no one had talked to them about trials. Perceptual mapping indicated that values such as \u201chelping find a cure\u201d or \u201cvalue to society\u201d had little resonance to those who had not participated, providing message strategy for prototype development. User testing of the tool resulted in modifications; the most significant was the adaptation to a multi\u2010cultural version.<\/span><\/p><\/section>

Conclusions<\/span><\/h3>

With the promise of digital health interventions, theory\u2010guided, user\u2010centered and best practice development is critical and\u00a0mychoice<\/i>\u00a0serves as an example of the application of these principles.<\/span><\/p><\/section>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
