During TUJ Community Day celebrations on November 7, the first TUJ Autumn Tea Gathering was held at the Japanese garden gazebo of Showa Women\u2019s University (SWU). In attendance were guests, delegates and trustees from Temple Main Campus in Philadelphia led by Temple University President Richard Englert and Executive Vice President and Provost JoAnne Epps.<\/p>\n

2019\u5e7411\u67087\u65e5\u3001TUJ\u30b3\u30df\u30e5\u30cb\u30c6\u30a3\u30fb\u30c7\u30a4\u306b\u3066\u3001TUJ\u79cb\u306e\u8336\u4f1a\u304c\u521d\u3081\u3066\u958b\u50ac\u3055\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u4f1a\u5834\u306f\u662d\u548c\u5973\u5b50\u5927\u5b66\u6577\u5730\u5185\u306e\u65e5\u672c\u5ead\u5712\u306b\u3066\u3001\u30c6\u30f3\u30d7\u30eb\u5927\u5b66\u7c73\u56fd\u672c\u6821\uff08\u30d5\u30a3\u30e9\u30c7\u30eb\u30d5\u30a3\u30a2\uff09\u306e\u4ee3\u8868\u56e3\u304b\u3089\u540c\u5927\u7dcf\u9577\u30ea\u30c1\u30e3\u30fc\u30c9\u30fb\u30a4\u30f3\u30b0\u30e9\u30fc\u30c8\u3001\u6559\u52d9\u62c5\u5f53\u526f\u7dcf\u9577\u30fb\u30d7\u30ed\u30dc\u30b9\u30c8\u306e\u30b8\u30e7\u30a2\u30f3\u30ca\u30fb\u30a8\u30c3\u30d7\u30b9\u306f\u3058\u3081\u591a\u6570\u306e\u30b2\u30b9\u30c8\u304c\u53c2\u52a0\u3057\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

The event was held in a Ry\u016brei (\u7acb\u793c) style tea ceremony or\u00a0temae<\/em>, where tea is prepared with the host seated at a special table, and the guests seated at tables which allows for the ceremony to be conducted outdoors. Four successive tea sessions were held where the temae was conducted by the two main hosts, TUJ professors Jordanco Sekulovski and Yaeko Kabe. Assisting were Kyoko Taima and Nao Shibusawa from the Reisenkai Japanese Culture Institute as well as TUJ instructor Mayu Tsuruya and two TUJ students Shoko Kondo and Atsumi Sato. Tea and sweets were served to the guests.<\/p>\n

\u4eca\u56de\u306e\u8336\u4f1a\u306f\u7acb\u793c\uff08\u308a\u3085\u3046\u308c\u3044\uff09\u306b\u3088\u308b\u70b9\u524d\uff08\u3066\u307e\u3048\uff09\u304c\u884c\u308f\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u30db\u30b9\u30c8\u5074\u3082\u3001\u30b2\u30b9\u30c8\u3082\u5c4b\u5916\u958b\u50ac\u7528\u306e\u7279\u5225\u306a\u30c6\u30fc\u30d6\u30eb\u306b\u7740\u5e2d\u3057\u3066\u958b\u50ac\u3055\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u8336\u4f1a\u306f\u56db\u5ea6\u7d9a\u3051\u3066\u3001\u70b9\u524d\u306f2\u4eba\u306e\u30e1\u30a4\u30f3\u30db\u30b9\u30c8\u3001TUJ\u6559\u54e1\u306e\u30e8\u30eb\u30c0\u30f3\u30c1\u30e7\u30fb\u30bb\u30af\u30ed\u30d5\u30b9\u30ad\u3068\u65e5\u90e8\u516b\u91cd\u5b50\u306b\u3088\u3063\u3066\u884c\u308f\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002\u52a0\u3048\u3066\u3001\u9e97\u6247\u4f1a\u306e\u6cf0\u9593\u4eac\u5b50\u6c0f\u3068\u6e0b\u6ca2\u5948\u7dd2\u6c0f\u3001\u307e\u305fTUJ\u6559\u54e1\u306e\u91e3\u8c37\u771f\u7531\u3001TUJ\u5b66\u751f\u306e\u8fd1\u85e4 \u7965\u5b50\u3055\u3093\u3068\u4f50\u85e4\u60c7\u672a\u3055\u3093\u306e\u304a\u624b\u4f1d\u3044\u3082\u3042\u308a\u3001\u30b2\u30b9\u30c8\u306b\u304a\u8336\u3068\u304a\u83d3\u5b50\u304c\u632f\u308b\u821e\u308f\u308c\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n

Each tea ceremony lasted for an hour. Over 50 guests were served matcha powdered tea and seasonal Japanese sweets wagashi with explanations of the Urasenke Tea School history and tea ceremony.<\/p>\n

We would like to extend our gratitude to Tina Saunders, director and associate professor of instruction in law at the Law Program at TUJ and Geo Otsu from the Dean\u2019s Office for making this possible and assisting us in preparing for the event. Also, we would like to thank SWU professor Akemi Mineda and staff for their extensive support.<\/p>\n

We are hoping that the successful completion of the event will provide an impetus to enrich the cultural offer at TUJ and use this to promote Japanese culture and arts among our faculty and students. We hope this will become a seasonal yearly event.<\/p>\n
