An Amateur Radio license is not required to join TUARC.\u00a0 However, a license is required for unsupervised access to club station K3TU in Room 723C of the Engineering Building (12th and Norris Streets).\u00a0 Earning an Amateur Radio license requires the study of basic electronic and radio theory and Federal Communi\"FCC\"cations Commission regulations.\u00a0 A knowledge of Morse code is no longer required for the Technician, General and Extra class licenses, although Morse code activity remains a strong component of Amateur Radio.\u00a0\u00a0 Easy-to-use study manuals for the entry level Technician license are the <\/span>Ham Radio License <\/span><\/a>Manual<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0ARRL Tech Q&A<\/span><\/a>, published by the ARRL.\u00a0 The ARRL also has audio CDs for learning <\/span>Morse Code<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Amateur radio has many facets of interest. Amateur radio remains in the forefront of experimental technology<\/span><\/a> with software define radio, microwave and satellite transmission and homebrew\u00a0projects<\/span>. <\/span>Amateur radio provides \"echo-logo\"trained corps of volunteers for public service<\/span><\/a> emergency communication.\u00a0For world-wide fellowship and challenges there are on-the-air<\/span><\/a> contests and activities.\"ARES\"<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
