TUARC is designated by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the College\u00a0Engineering at Temple University as an Undergraduate and Graduate Laboratory, licensed by the Federal Communication Commission for Amateur Radio wireless and satellite data communication. TUARC is a campus organization for students<\/span><\/strong>, Faculty<\/span><\/strong>, staff<\/span><\/strong> and Alumni<\/span><\/strong> for technical experimentation, emer<\/span>gency preparedness within Philadelphia County and international fellowship. Access to the K3TU is available for operation\u00a0<\/span>by Temple University affiliated, Amateur Radio lic<\/span>ensed individuals by contacting the Faculty Adviser and S<\/span>tation Trustee: Dr. Dennis Silage K3DS <\/span>silage@temple.edu.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/big><\/small><\/p>\n

TUARC memb<\/span>ers learn how to use<\/span> radio equipment, computers and antennas to communicate with operators throughout<\/span> the world using Morse code, voice, digital text and images t<\/span>hrough terrestrial repeaters and Amateur Radio satellites.\u00a0 It’s challenging, fun and a great way to learn about other cultures and promote\u00a0<\/span>fellowship.<\/span><\/span><\/big><\/small><\/p>\n

\"\"During\u00a0nat<\/span>ural disasters and other emergencies, Am<\/span>ateur Radio <\/span> volunteers play<\/span> a vital role in providing commun<\/span>ications from stricken areas.\u00a0When all else fails, Amateur <\/span> Radio o<\/span>perato<\/span>rs u<\/span>se their sophisticated local frequency modulated (FM) repeaters and long dista<\/span>nce<\/span>\u00a0high frequency (HF) radio transceivers to\u00a0get the\u00a0<\/span>message through. TUARC through the Amateur Radio\u00a0Emergency Service (ARES)<\/span> provi<\/span>des <\/span> such communication services when called upon.<\/span><\/p>\n

TUARC has formed the basis of undergraduate ECE capstone senior design projects in Amateur Radio digital data and satellite communication. TUARC is an ARRL Affiliated Club<\/span><\/strong> and subscribes to the efforts of the Collegiate Amateur Radio<\/span> Program<\/a>.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

TUARC has celebrated its 65th anniversary and has held the FCC callsigns K3KJI issued in January 1960 and WA3TVT issued in November 1972. The original station location was Stauffer Hall at Broad Street and Columbia Avenue (now Cecil B. Moore Avenue). TUARC moved to the 9th floor of the new Architecture and Engineering Building at 12th and Norris Streets in 1979. TUARC is now located in Room 723C of the same building but now called the College of Engineering. The distinctive FCC callsign K3TU was issued in September 1996 and replaced WA3TVT.<\/span><\/big><\/small><\/p>\n
