The author explores how perceptions of “the other” contribute to the separation between these two groups on Duke University’s campus. This can help me examine how athletes may become so accustomed to their team environments and athletic responsibilities that they have fewer opportunities to connect with students who have different experiences and priorities. As a result, their social circles and daily routines may revolve heavily around athletics, limiting their exposure to different perspectives, interests, and career paths. I can use this source to question whether athletic departments are creating opportunities for student-athletes to build relationships beyond their teams and explore who they are outside of competition. This connects to my larger argument that preparing athletes for life after sports requires more than academic success; it also means helping them develop a sense of belonging, independence, and identity beyond their athletic roles.

I haven’t made a lot of progress last week on my documentary except for finding more references. It’s been a long week and it’s that part of the semester where nothing is funny anymore. Tomorrow I have a meeting with the athletic director of Villanova, to pitch my idea to him and grab my last athlete for this documentary. I have solidified only one D3 athlete, and sent emails to other financial advisors in hopes of speaking with them, but have not gotten any progress. I haven’t emailed any professors or coaches because I’m still not sure about how many poeple I will need. By this week and the next time we have to do a blog post I’m hoping to complete the following.

Finalize questions for everyone (also getting it proofread by Journalist Denise James)

Have AT LEAST and idea of a place to interview majority of these interviewees.

Solidify or follow up on the Villanova athlete and Temple athlete.

Finish production binder This week I plan to finalize my questions for eveyone

Have a detailed timeline for this project.

Edit media?
