This week your child is learning the words picnic, scruffy, collar, and leash. The words come from the book, The Stray Dog. Explain what the words mean and talk about them with your child. As you’re going through the week, try to talk about each word three times.
A picnic is a meal you eat outdoors.
Scruffy means messy and dirty. This is a scruffy dog who needs a bath.
A collar is a band that goes around an animal’s neck. Collars usually include a tag with the dog’s name. You can attach a leash to a collar.
A leash is a long rope used to keep an animal close to you. This dog is holding on to his leash, wanting to go on a walk.
Congratulations, you are helping your child grow a large vocabulary!
