This week your child is learning the words boss, hum, bank, and deliver. The words come from the book A Chair for my Mother. Explain what the words mean and talk about them with your child. Boss – person in charge of a worker. The boss tells workers what to do.

Ask your child: “Who is a boss? What do bosses do?”

Hum – make a low, steady continuous sound like that of a bee. Try to hum the tune “Happy Birthday.”

Ask your child: “Can you make a humming sound?”

Bank – a place where you can keep your money safely. People can keep their money safe at the bank.

Ask your child: “What do people keep at the bank?”

Deliver – bring and hand over (a letter, parcel, or ordered goods) to a person or address. The postman delivers mail and packages.

Ask your child: “What does deliver mean?”
